Book Review: Everything Origami (Matthew Gardiner)

image
I remember my “Grade-6 classmate” bring this to school some day just before the end of the school year. I was astounded with the various models diagrammed in the book, especially the origami “Verdi’s Vase,” which is now one of my favorite models.
The book is very expensive (well, in the Philippines it is). But, all the money is worth it when you see the marvelous models in the book, ranging from the skills of a beginner to that of an expert.
It is divided into 8: The Origami History, Traditional, Flowers and Decorations, Toys, Practical Boxes, Geometric, Animals, and Dinosaurs.
Well, the book also has its imperfections. The origami bookmark in the “Practical Boxes” section has one of its illustrations wrong. You can still base your works with the photograph at the start of each diagram.
If I would give the book a rating from 1-10, 10 being the highest, I would give it a 9.5.

Book Review: Origami Tessellations (Eric Gjerde)

The book really shows clear instructions for each tessellation in the book. It also shows clear pictures which can be used as a basis in making the projects/models. It is because of this book that I fell in love with tessellations. I also made my first tessellation with the help of this book. (Post: Origami Tessellation: Five-and-Four)
But, there are still some mistakes that we have to watch out for. One is the crease pattern for the “Star-Puff Tessellation d. b. Ralf Konrad.
The crease pattern is somehow wrong, but the instructions are still correct. My advice to all beginners there with the model: do NOT follow the crease pattern for that specific tessellation. It will just turn your head upside-down and will also be a waste of effort if you are finished with folding the crease pattern.
Well, hopefully, that is the only mistake in this book that I have observed so far. In a score range of 1-10, 10 being the highest, I will give the book a rating of 9.
